Job Description

Ledgent Accounting & Finance has partnered with a growing engineering company near East LA and is actively seeking an Accounts Payable Specialist to join their team! This is a full-time position and onsite Monday-Friday.

The Accounts Payable Specialist will work with various departments to verify expenses, manage vendor accounts, and support month-end closures. The ideal candidate has a strong background in both construction and corporate accounts payable, with excellent organizational skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across teams.

This position is ideal for an experienced and detail-oriented AP professional who thrives in a dynamic, high-volume environment.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Process vendor and subcontractor invoices with proper coding, approvals, and compliance checks.
  • Manage retention, progress billings, and final payments for subcontractors, ensuring contract requirements are met.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers and Engineers to validate project costs, change orders, preliminary expenses, and overhead charges.
  • Facilitate vendor account management, handling discrepancies, late payments, and other billing issues.
  • Support month-end close with AP reconciliations, accruals, and general ledger updates.
  • Maintain accurate records for audits and contribute to process improvements for better efficiency.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years of AP experience in a project-based environment (i.e. construction)
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (preferred).
  • Proficient in Sage Intacct.
  • Must have strong Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP) skills.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, job costing, retention, and subcontractor payments.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
